How is the due date calculated?

A pregnancy lasts 40 weeks on average (280 days), counted from the first day of your last period. With a 28-day cycle, that is the starting point. If your cycle is longer or shorter, the date moves with it. At the dating scan, your midwife determines the date more precisely; that date always takes precedence.

How often is the due date right?

Only a small share of babies are born exactly on their due date. A birth between 37 and 42 weeks is considered full term.
