Please note: this page describes the rules in the Netherlands. For one baby, you are entitled to at least 16 weeks of pregnancy and maternity leave combined. Your pregnancy leave starts between 6 and 4 weeks before the day after your due date. After the birth you get at least 10 weeks of maternity leave. For twins or multiples, the total is 20 weeks, and you start between 10 and 8 weeks before the day after the due date.
What do I need to arrange?
Tell your employer at the latest 3 weeks before your leave starts that you are pregnant, and hand in a pregnancy statement from your midwife or doctor. Your employer applies for the benefit from UWV. Are you self-employed? Then you apply to UWV yourself. Everything you need to arrange, and when, is also in the MIMMTI Pregnancy Journal & Planner. No date yet? Calculate your due date.
